THE CHALLENGE

Creating a functional home office on a terrace.

Beatriz Mellado needed a space for remote working. Her home had become too small, and so she had considered having an additional space on the large terrace. Naturally, she couldn’t build with fixed structures, but there was the possibility of creating a lightweight enclosure with sandwich panels. After contacting Kauma, the project took on more character: from a simple office to a multifunctional space, combining several areas in an open-plan environment enclosed by large windows and glass panels, where light and the outdoors would still be present.

THE KAUMA SOLUTION

Talos, the most insulating pergola.

The Talos pergola is made up of a robust aluminium structure. The roof is constructed from 82mm ultra-insulating sandwich panels, providing excellent protection from both cold and heat. Furthermore, the 82mm sandwich panel acts as a sound insulator, dampening external noise as well as the sound of raindrops hitting the panel.

On the sides, sandwich panels are also used where the view isn’t a priority (specifically, in the bathroom). For the rest, the exterior takes centre stage with Pivotal 350 sliding glass doors and double-glazed windows.

The result is a complete home office with distinct and multi-purpose zones. Beneath the Talos structure, in conjunction with Pivotal 350 double-glazed glass curtains and double-glazed windows, we find a kitchen, a living-dining room, a bathroom, and a space for remote working. Without a doubt, it’s a new way to revitalise the terrace with a great deal of style and, above all, knowing how to make the most of the space.
