THE CHALLENGE

Glass curtains
Multi-position glass curtains in a bioclimatic pergola

The poolside lounge of this Marbella villa required a striking bioclimatic pergola structure and a perimeter enclosure with glass curtains. What might seem straightforward at first glance quickly became a challenge due to a specific request: all the glass curtains had to be parked in the same stacking area, while still effectively enclosing both the front and sides of the pergola.
This involved setting back the pergola’s pillars to allow the smooth passage of the glass curtains, precisely calculating the width of each glass panel so that, when needed, the front panels could also close off the sides, and reinforcing the stacking zone to support such a substantial volume of glass.

THE KAUMA SOLUTION

Reinforced stacking area and
precision floor fixings

Thanks to its versatility and robustness, the chosen glass curtain system was the Gravital 400, with no floor tracks. The panel width calculation was as precise as a Swiss watch.

We ensured that any glass panel could close off the front, sides, or rear of the pergola. The stacking area was reinforced to accommodate all 38 panels of the system—over 2,200 kg in weight.

Regarding the bioclimatic pergola, which consists of four modules, the corner pillars were repositioned to facilitate the rotation of the glass curtains. Karen wanted an entirely open interior, without a central pillar. The weight was balanced by the lateral pillars. Among other details, we lacquered the lower panel profile in a different colour from the upper panel profile. We added awnings for those summer days when the sun is at its most intense. As a special feature, the awnings have extendable arms to secure them to the nearest pillars (remember, the pillars are set back). For winter, we included a heating system. The slat spotlights provide the necessary lighting for the evening.
