THE CHALLENGE

At the beachside with its pros
and cons.

What began as a small beachside kiosk quickly transformed over the years into a renowned restaurant in Praia de Luz, Portugal. Thus, the restaurant Paraíso needed to live up to its name and offer its customers a comfortable environment: protecting them from gusts of wind, sand, and sea spray in summer, while extending beyond the summer season. Paraíso wanted to be a restaurant open to the sea, to be enjoyed at any time of the year.

THE KAUMA SOLUTION

When the views are
the best of the elements.

We installed six Nimbo modules to cover an area of 150 m² of terrace overlooking the sea. The pergola features an aesthetic and functional overhang: this additional element provides extra shade protection, making it particularly pleasant when conversing around a table.

The original building is free from other architectural elements that protect it from gusts of wind. To prevent potential bending of the pergola, we added two steel cables with tensioners to each of the beams, which are anchored to the building’s structure. Additionally, they serve an aesthetic purpose, resembling the ropes used by local fishing boats.

Vertically, we created a comfort zone with glass curtains across several openings and multiple parking areas. Without vertical framing, we enhanced the panoramic view of the space, which can now be used throughout the year.
