THE CHALLENGE

Maintain the views towards the sky.

The Hotel Ciudad de Jódar had a large but underutilised outdoor space. To maximise its offering and provide greater comfort for its guests, they approached Kauma to design a large retractable roof structure. Different heights and irregularities in the floor plan had to be accommodated, along with the request to make all 24 sections of the roof “disappear” once opened.

THE KAUMA SOLUTION

Opening towards the drain.

When we invert the motorisation, we achieve an opening towards the gutter and not towards the eaves, as is usual. This approach, especially recommended for pitched roofs, allows us to open the central area and keep it free of panels. It’s a way to enhance the total open-sky view from the technical development of the product.

The panels, made of latest-generation cellular polycarbonate, filter the light into the interior. Furthermore, they block the ultraviolet rays that cause the greenhouse effect. In total, the Hotel Ciudad de Jódar boasts a lounge of over 180 square metres protected from the elements.
The roof was completed with low-energy LED spotlights, perfect for bathing the room in a uniform light. The Pivotal 250 glass curtains enhance interior comfort, both in winter and summer, and help to maintain stable temperatures at any time of year.
