THE CHALLENGE

Updating a versatile premises
in a protected environment.

Seville’s most established and traditional confectioner’s, La Campana, was opening a new premises in the centre of Seville. Situated in an urban environment protected due to its proximity to Seville Cathedral, Kauma faced the challenge of multiplying the interior space by blurring visual barriers, whilst also being respectful of the architecture. The essence of a confectioner’s with nearly 140 years of history had to be brought into the 21st century. Glass was already a key feature of the premises, with large display counters to showcase the most exquisite sweets. And glass had to continue to be the leitmotif when creating a barrier-free space, one that brought the outdoor terrace into the indoor lounge and generated a space without visual obstructions.

THE KAUMA SOLUTION

Thermal insulation and
sympathetic colours.

While initially the property owners were considering the traditional Pivotal 250 glass curtain, after studying their needs, we offered the Pivotal 350 solution. The idea was to have the greatest possible insulation inside when the curtain was closed. Pivotal 350, the thermally insulated glass curtain, provides insulation against the cold and the high temperatures of Seville thanks to its double glazing.

These features make Pivotal 350 the perfect glass curtain in Seville: in winter, its double-glazed unit insulates against the cold and it’s the most weatherproof glass curtain on the market against rain. In summer, it keeps the coolness of the air conditioning inside and the high outdoor temperatures out. And in the shoulder seasons, it allows for a complete opening of the system, like a conventional glass curtain, making the interior and exterior a single space.

As an additional detail, we lacquered the profiles in a champagne tone, a special matt RAL colour from our extensive colour chart. This shade is in keeping with the surroundings and with the innovative-traditional aesthetic that embodies the essence of this century-old confectioner’s.
